Chief Minister Manik Saha has been actively engaging with the central government to secure necessary funds for comprehensive restoration and rehabilitation. The floods, triggered by incessant rainfall between August 19 and 23, led to significant loss of life and widespread damage across multiple districts.
The state government promptly assessed the extensive damage, estimating losses amounting to approximately Rs 15,000 crore. In response, Chief Minister Saha met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to present a detailed report on the devastation and to request financial assistance for the state’s recovery efforts. Following this meeting, the central government released an initial Rs 40 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to aid immediate relief operations.
Recognizing the need for substantial resources to rebuild infrastructure and support affected communities, the Tripura government announced a special package of Rs 564 crore dedicated to restoration work. This package aims to address damages to roads, bridges, power transmission lines, agriculture, and housing. The funds are allocated to various departments to ensure a coordinated and efficient recovery process.
To further bolster the state’s relief efforts, an additional Rs 13 crore was sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, bringing the total state allocation for post-flood management to Rs 25 crore. These funds are being utilized through the Revenue Department’s Disaster Management wing to provide necessary assistance to the affected areas.
Despite these allocations, the scale of the disaster necessitates further support. The state government has submitted a comprehensive memorandum to the Union Home Ministry, detailing the extent of the damages and requesting additional funds for relief and rehabilitation. Chief Minister Saha has emphasized the importance of central assistance in expediting the restoration of essential services and infrastructure.
In addition to governmental efforts, there has been a significant outpouring of support from various organizations and individuals. Initiatives like the flood relief program organized by Abhay Mission, attended by Chief Minister Saha, have provided essential supplies to those affected. Such collaborative efforts underscore the community’s resilience and commitment to recovery.
