Union Budget 2025 has brought a wave of optimism to the Northeast, with Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy calling it a development-oriented financial roadmap for the region. He emphasized that the budget reflects the central government’s commitment to accelerating economic growth, strengthening infrastructure, and improving the overall quality of life in the northeastern states.

Roy highlighted key allocations that will directly impact Tripura and its neighboring states, focusing on connectivity, industry, and social welfare. He noted that enhanced investments in roadways, railways, and air connectivity will bridge the infrastructural gaps that have long hindered the region’s growth. The expansion of the Northeast Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) ensures that funds will be directed toward modernizing roads and transportation networks, easing trade and travel within and beyond the region.

The minister praised the budget’s focus on industrial growth, particularly in agriculture and allied sectors, which remain the backbone of Tripura’s economy. Increased allocations for the food processing industry will encourage local entrepreneurs and farmers to boost production and enter larger markets. He said that incentives for bamboo cultivation and rubber production will further strengthen Tripura’s economic foundation, creating new employment opportunities.

Education and healthcare received a major push, with new provisions for establishing medical colleges and upgrading educational institutions in rural areas. Roy expressed confidence that these initiatives will help reduce the migration of students and patients to other states in search of better facilities. He appreciated the allocation for skilling programs, which will equip local youth with the necessary training to find employment in diverse sectors, including technology and manufacturing.

The finance minister also acknowledged the budget’s commitment to sustainable development. He pointed out that dedicated funds for renewable energy projects will enable Tripura and other northeastern states to harness solar and hydroelectric power more efficiently. He stressed that environmental conservation remains a priority, and the government’s support for afforestation and eco-tourism projects will contribute to both ecological preservation and economic progress.

Women’s empowerment featured prominently in Roy’s remarks. He welcomed the increase in funding for self-help groups (SHGs), which play a crucial role in providing financial independence to women in rural areas. He noted that improved access to credit and entrepreneurship programs will enable more women to start businesses and contribute to the state’s economic development.

Roy commended the emphasis on digital transformation, stating that investments in expanding internet connectivity and IT hubs will place Tripura on the path to becoming a digital economy. The government’s focus on startups and technology-driven enterprises will offer young entrepreneurs the chance to innovate and build successful businesses within the region.

While discussing the broader implications of the budget, the minister assured that Tripura will utilize the allocated funds effectively. He stated that the state government will work closely with the Centre to implement projects that align with the vision of a self-reliant and prosperous Northeast. He reiterated that development will reach the grassroots level, ensuring that tribal communities, farmers, and small business owners all benefit from the government’s initiatives.

The finance minister concluded by expressing gratitude to the Union government for prioritizing the Northeast’s growth in the budget. He reaffirmed that with the right policies and financial backing, Tripura and the entire region will witness unprecedented progress in the coming years. He urged citizens to stay optimistic, as the government remains committed to making the Northeast a hub of development and opportunity.
