Violence in Manipur: One Killed, Four Injured in Ongoing Gunfights

The state of Manipur remains gripped by violence, with reports of a 28-year-old village volunteer losing his life and four others sustaining injuries in ongoing gunfights with alleged militants. The incidents occurred along the inter-district areas of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts on Tuesday (February 13).

Intermittent Exchanges of Gunfire

The confrontations, marked by intermittent exchanges of gunfire, commenced on Monday night and persisted through Tuesday at various strategic villages, including Khamelok, Pukhao Shantipur, Shabungkhok Khunou, Sangrram, Khamelok, Sanasabi, Saibol Maning, and Simol, as reported by Manipur police.

The deceased village volunteer was identified as Likmabam Damocha (28), a resident of Khamelok village in Imphal East district. He succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest during the intense gunfight.

Four other village volunteers—Moirangthem Naocha (22), Laishram Ihulakpa (26), Sagolsem Loya (25), and Sinam Sam (25)—sustained injuries in the exchange of gunfire. They were swiftly transported to Raj Medicity Hospital, Imphal, for medical attention.

The ongoing hostilities have also led to the potential loss of lives on the militants’ side, with drones launched by village volunteers reportedly identifying militant hideouts.

As of the latest update, the gunfight continues, reflecting the precarious security situation in the region.
