The Indian Army has launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted military operation against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives on April 22.
The announcement was made after multiple explosions were reported from several locations across Pakistan and PoJK late Sunday night. According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the operation was a focused counter-terror measure aimed at dismantling the infrastructure used to plan and execute terror strikes against India.
“Altogether, nine (9) sites have been targeted. Our actions have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted,” the PIB said, emphasizing India’s restraint and precision in executing the strikes.
The statement clarified that the operation was in direct response to the barbaric attack in Pahalgam, which killed 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. The attack, carried out by militants believed to be operating from PoJK, had drawn sharp condemnation from across the country.
“We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable,” the Indian government said, adding that a detailed briefing on Operation Sindoor would be held later in the day.
On the other side, Pakistan’s military acknowledged the strikes, stating that three locations were targeted—two in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and one in Bahawalpur, a key city in Pakistan’s Punjab province, close to the Indian border.
While the full extent of damage is still being assessed, initial reports suggest that key terror camps and logistical bases were struck. Indian defense sources maintained that no civilian casualties were reported and that the operation was carefully calibrated to avoid escalation.
Operation Sindoor marks a significant moment in India’s counter-terror strategy, showcasing its resolve to act against cross-border terrorism while avoiding direct military confrontation.
