Women in Tripura are rapidly emerging as a strong force in entrepreneurship and skill development. A series of focused initiatives by the Government of India has played a key role in promoting economic independence and enterprise leadership among women across the state.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary shared detailed data highlighting women’s participation in various central schemes. The figures underline a sustained push toward inclusive growth, with special emphasis on tribal and rural women.
Strong Focus on Tribal Women
Over the last three years, the Ministry trained 1,697 women in Tripura under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PMJANMAN). This initiative focuses on empowering women from tribal communities by improving skills and livelihood opportunities.
Moreover, the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) scheme trained 9,742 women in vocational skills between FY 2022–23 and October 31, 2025. As a result, many women enhanced their employability and achieved greater self-reliance.

Skill Training Gains Momentum
The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0) also recorded significant progress in Tripura. From FY 2023–24 to FY 2025–26, authorities trained 14,772 candidates and certified 9,796. A large share of these beneficiaries were women, reflecting growing participation in formal skill programs.
In addition, women continued to maintain a steady presence in technical education. Under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS), enrolment in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) stood at 721 in 2022, 704 in 2023, and 671 in 2024. Although numbers dipped slightly, women remained actively engaged in vocational trades.
Livelihood and Rural Enterprise Support
Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), the government trained 10,851 women in Tripura. Of them, 8,080 successfully secured sustainable livelihoods. To support these efforts, Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) received ₹575.21 crore in funding over four years.
Furthermore, Tripura witnessed the establishment of 1,739 enterprises under the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) during the last three years. This growth strengthened the rural entrepreneurship ecosystem and created local employment opportunities.
Financial Assistance Boosts Women Enterprises
Women-led micro-enterprises also benefited from financial incentives. Authorities disbursed ₹12.43 crore as Margin Money subsidy to 533 enterprises under general schemes. Additionally, ₹10.37 crore supported 411 rural enterprises under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) between FY 2022–23 and FY 2024–25.
Financial inclusion expanded significantly during this period. Under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) and Stand-Up India Scheme, 5,24,597 loan accounts of women entrepreneurs received sanctions totaling ₹2,903.21 crore from FY 2022–23 to FY 2025–26. Notably, the Stand-Up India Scheme alone sanctioned ₹53.22 crore for 263 women-led enterprises.
Urban Employment Gap Remains
However, challenges remain in urban skill linkage. Under the DAY-NULM scheme, authorities trained only 10 women in the last three years, and none secured placements. This gap signals the need for stronger urban employment connections and targeted interventions.
Overall, the data reflects the government’s sustained commitment to empowering women in Tripura. Through skill training, financial support, and enterprise promotion, these initiatives continue to lay a solid foundation for inclusive economic growth and gender empowerment in the state.
