The Youth Convention Kohima 2025 brought together over 5,000 young people from all eight northeastern states of India. Hosted at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Kohima from June 27–30, the event was organized by the North East Regional Youth Commission (NERYC).
With the theme “Rooted in Christ, Radiating Hope,” the convention created space for prayer, cultural expression, leadership training, and inter-state dialogue.
Highlights from Youth Convention Kohima 2025
During the Kohima youth gathering, participants attended keynote addresses, workshops, and spiritual sessions. Notably:
- Bishop James Thoppil opened with a powerful talk on youth responsibility and Christian leadership.
- Workshops focused on mental health, digital balance, and tribal identity in a changing world.
- Evenings were filled with cultural performances by youth from Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and other states.
“This experience showed me that faith can build real unity,” said Angela M., a participant from Tripura.
The event emphasized not only spiritual growth but also social relevance—an approach that resonated deeply with attendees.
Sacred Heart Cathedral: A Perfect Venue for Youth Convention Kohima
The Sacred Heart Cathedral in Kohima was the heart of the event. Known for its striking architecture and hillside location, it created a space of reflection and reverence throughout the four-day convention.
Delegates often spent quiet moments in prayer or joined group reflections, reinforcing the spiritual tone of the convention.
Building Cross-State Youth Connections in Kohima
More than just a spiritual retreat, the Youth Convention Kohima became a platform for lasting friendships and youth collaboration. Delegates from Nagaland, Sikkim, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Assam, and Mizoram joined hands in shared purpose.
Importantly, youth leaders proposed the formation of a North East Catholic Youth Network (NECYN)—a digital platform to continue dialogue and planning.

Lessons from the Youth Convention Kohima Experience
Several themes emerged as essential takeaways:
- Faith-based leadership for youth in society
- Encouraging civic participation and volunteerism
- Strengthening tribal identity without losing unity
- Combating social media overuse through spirituality
Because these topics were explored interactively, youth felt engaged and motivated to act on them locally.
What Happens After Youth Convention Kohima?
At the event’s closing, NERYC announced several next steps:
- A follow-up youth leadership camp in Shillong this October
- Creation of digital mentorship cells across dioceses
- Inter-state exchange programs to promote peace and shared heritage
These plans aim to preserve the momentum built during the Youth Convention Kohima and extend its reach across the region.
