The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) has demanded a thorough investigation into a recent unfortunate incident at Twijilikma Nuyung, popularly known as Neermahal, one of Tripura’s most iconic heritage sites. Following reports of the incident, a delegation of YTF leaders visited the site, held discussions with officials, and submitted a memorandum to the police urging immediate action.

The delegation expressed deep concern over the matter, stressing that Neermahal is not just an architectural monument but a symbol of the cultural pride and historical legacy of the state. They emphasized that any attempt to damage or disrespect the monument cannot be tolerated.

In their statement, the YTF leaders said, “We cannot allow the dignity of our heritage to be tarnished in this manner. The culprits must be identified at the earliest, and appropriate action must be taken against them.” They also called upon authorities to adopt stricter measures to ensure better security and preservation of the palace.

Neermahal, also known as the “Lake Palace of Tripura,” was built in 1930 by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake. It is regarded as a unique example of Indo-Islamic architectural brilliance and remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state. The monument represents not only Tripura’s royal history but also its artistic and cultural heritage.

The incident has sparked widespread concern among cultural activists, historians, and local residents, many of whom joined the demand for swift action. They noted that repeated negligence or lack of accountability could endanger the state’s most valuable heritage sites.

The YTF has also urged the state government to prioritize heritage protection policies, arguing that cultural landmarks like Neermahal are an integral part of Tripura’s identity. They further highlighted that such monuments play a vital role in promoting tourism, which contributes significantly to the local economy.

Local police have assured that the matter is under active investigation, and appropriate legal steps will be taken against those found responsible. Officials have also indicated that security arrangements around the monument will be reviewed to prevent further incidents.

The YTF has pledged to continue its efforts to safeguard Tripura’s heritage and maintain public pressure until accountability is ensured. The organization reiterated that the preservation of Neermahal is not only a responsibility of the government but also of every citizen who values the state’s rich culture and history.

The incident at Neermahal has reignited discussions about heritage conservation in Tripura, reminding both the government and the public of the importance of collective responsibility in protecting monuments that stand as symbols of identity and pride.
