8 Injured, Over 20 Arrested in Post-Poll Violence in Tripura

At least 8 people were injured in the post-poll violence in Tripura. Police said 20 people have been arrested in connection with the incidents of post-poll violence in the state. Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday met the injured at GBP Hospital and asked the police to take strict action against the miscreants to maintain peace.

Most of the cases of post-poll violence were reported from Sipahijala and Khowai districts, where some people were injured and shifted to a nearby health centre, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Jyotishman Das Chowdhary said. He said that no death has been reported so far.

Five FIRs have been registered in this connection so far and eight people have been seriously injured, he said. Over 20 rioters were arrested for their alleged involvement.

He said that about 70 such incidents have been reported across the state since the declaration of the election results.
