Allegations have surfaced in several districts of Tripura that some petrol pumps display “No Petrol” or “No Petrol & Diesel” signboards while secretly selling fuel at higher prices.
Residents from multiple areas claim that several petrol pumps have put up boards stating that petrol and diesel are unavailable. At the same time, some sources allege that pump operators continue to sell fuel quietly to selected buyers at inflated rates.
The reports have raised concerns among commuters and vehicle owners across the state.

Complaints Reported From Several Areas
Residents reported such incidents in Mohanpur in West Tripura district and in Bishalgarh.
Similar allegations have emerged from Ishita Petroleum located in Mohanbhog Kamrangatali. Local residents claim the pump displayed a “No Petrol” board while some buyers allegedly received fuel.
Sources say complaints have also come from other petrol pumps in different parts of the state.
Minister Earlier Assured Adequate Fuel Supply
The controversy gained attention because it followed a recent statement by state Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
During a press conference, the minister said petrol pumps across all districts and sub-divisions in Tripura had enough fuel stock. He also stated that the available supply could meet demand for at least one month.
However, several petrol pumps reportedly started displaying “No Petrol” or “No Diesel” signboards within a day of that statement. This sudden change created confusion among consumers.
Consumers Allege Secret Fuel Sales
Some consumers claim petrol pumps continue to sell fuel unofficially despite displaying shortage notices. They allege that certain buyers can purchase petrol or diesel at prices higher than the official rate.
These claims have triggered accusations of hoarding and black marketing.
Many commuters said they had to visit several petrol pumps before finding fuel. Some motorists also expressed frustration over the lack of clear information about the actual fuel supply.
Public Calls for Investigation
The situation has drawn criticism from residents and local observers. Many people have questioned the gap between the minister’s assurance and the reports emerging from different areas.
Some residents also claim that officials from the Food Department have not yet taken visible action against the accused petrol pumps.
Citizens and local groups now demand immediate inspections of petrol pumps across the state. They have urged authorities to take strict action against any operator found hoarding fuel or selling it illegally.
Many believe that quick intervention by the administration will restore public confidence and ensure fuel remains available at official prices across Tripura.
