Assam: Al Qaeda Recruited People in Terrorist Organization

Al Qaeda has tricked many people into joining terrorist organizations in remote areas of Assam. After interrogating two imams arrested from Goalpara district, the police on Thursday got some important information about the conspiracy of al-Qaeda. A senior Assam Police official said that six Bangladeshi terrorists belonging to the Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) terror groups came to Assam a few years ago and seduced many people from remote areas dominated by the Muslim community. He was recruited into al-Qaeda.

Two of these terrorists were living in Goalpara district for the last two-three years. Raids have been conducted in the Fakhiura area, where Bangladeshi jihadists were staying. The house where the terrorists stayed has also been found. Out of these six Bangladeshi terrorists, the police arrested one terrorist, while five other terrorists are absconding. Police are trying their best to nab them. Earlier on Saturday, the police had arrested two Imams belonging to AQIS and ABT terror groups from the Goalpara district of Assam.

They have been identified as Imam Abdus Subhan of Tinkunia Shantipur Masjid and Jalaluddin Sheikh, Imam of Tilpara Natun Mosque. Goalpara district superintendent of police (SP) VV Rakesh Reddy said links of these imams have been found with AQIS and ABT’s Barpeta and Morigaon modules. Some important evidence has been found during the search of the house of the accused. VV Rakesh said that a special inquiry team has been formed. Some more arrests are also expected soon.

A few days ago, the government of Himanta Biswa Sarma took a big decision regarding the recruitment of imams and teachers in madrassas to curb jihadi activities in Assam.
