The Boxing Federation of India (BFI), in collaboration with REC Limited, is launching the Eastern Open Talent Hunt program in Guwahati, Assam. Scheduled from March 3 to March 18, the event aims to discover budding boxing talents in the region.

Exciting Opportunities for Aspiring Boxers

BFI Secretary General Hemanta Kumar Kalita expressed his enthusiasm during a press conference in Guwahati, stating that the talent hunt program provides an open platform for all aspiring boxers to exhibit their skills. Participants will have the opportunity to compete in various categories and potentially earn a spot in the national camps, where they will receive professional training under experienced coaches.

The tournament will feature junior and sub-junior categories for both boys and girls from March 3 to March 9. Following this, the elite and youth categories for men and women will take place from March 12 to 18. Registration for the elite and youth categories is open until March 4.

Kalita revealed that over 300 young boxers from 19 states have already registered for the sub-junior and junior categories, reflecting the widespread interest and participation in the event.

Winners of the zonal level competition will receive cash prizes, with Rs 15,000 for gold, Rs 10,000 for silver, and Rs 5,000 for bronze. Additionally, eight quarterfinalists from each weight category will qualify for the national championships in Haryana.

Participants who emerge victorious in the national championships will earn direct entry into the national camp, where they will receive enhanced training opportunities to further hone their skills and represent the country in prestigious boxing events.

The event will be inaugurated by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at 3 pm today, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for aspiring boxers in the region.
