World Tourism Day was celebrated in Assam on Tuesday. In order to rejuvenate the sluggish tourism industry during the Covid period, the target was set to attract a large number of tourists to the northeastern state.
The Assam government organized the main event at Kaziranga National Park. Apart from this, other programs were organized all over the state.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma tweeted, “Assam is a tourist paradise with the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, clean and serene nature, rich past, rich cultural heritage and diversity.”
He asked everyone to come to Assam and enjoy tourism.
State Tourism Minister Jayant Malla Barua tweeted, “Tourism Day was organized to create awareness about the important role of tourism in influencing the socio-cultural, political and economic values of the international community.”
He said that the Kamakhya temple is visited by a large number of tourists during the Ambubachi Mela, while many people also come to see the nature and wildlife in Assam.
Talking to reporters during the program organized in Kaziranga, the Tourism Minister said, “After the pandemic, we are looking at tourism from a new perspective and the theme of this year’s event is also the same.”
