Assam: National Level Karate Player, His Brother Died In Road Accident

In a tragic incident, a national karate player and his brother died in a road accident in Konwarpur in the district of Sivasagar in upper Assam on Saturday. 

The brothers were named Shiromani Konwar (24), and Ajay Konwar. Notably, the late Shiromani Konwar was a karate coach as well as a national player.

He has recently attracted attention by leading a team to a medal at the Assam Youth Olympics.

The incident happened when a two-wheeler lost control and crashed into a tree, causing two brothers to die instantly.

According to police, the accident occurred around 11 am at Kari Gaon village in Konwarpur when karateka Shiromani Konwar and his brother Ajay Konwar were returning from a family function in a nearby village.

 “Three persons were on the scooter when they lost control, hitting a roadside tree, and got seriously injured,” he added.

The police official said Shiromoni Kanwar died on the spot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but the doctors declared him dead, while his brother was sent to Dibrugarh for better treatment though unfortunately he also died on the way.

The Injured person Bairagi is currently in treatment and out of danger.

The bodies were sent for an autopsy report and if they were driving in a state of intoxication can be checked once the report comes in.

Several local associations, including the All Assam Karate Association and the Sivasagar District Karate Association, expressed their condolences on Konwar’s death.
