Guwahati, April 30: The campaigning for the first phase of the Assam panchayat elections 2025 formally concluded on Tuesday evening, paving the way for polling scheduled to take place on May 2. This phase of the election will cover several key districts including Kamrup, Nagaon, Sonitpur, and Darrang.
The Assam State Election Commission (ASEC) has confirmed that all logistical and administrative arrangements have been completed to ensure a smooth and secure electoral process. Approximately 70 lakh rural voters are expected to exercise their franchise during this phase of the local body elections in Assam.
Campaign Highlights and Political Strategy
All major political parties participated in extensive campaigning efforts. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC), the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) focused on constituency-level outreach through roadshows, rallies, and door-to-door engagements.
The ruling party, BJP, emphasized its developmental achievements and governance reforms under both central and state-level leadership. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) have been distributed in all polling booths. Training sessions for polling staff have been completed, and personnel have been deployed to their assigned locations.
