Assam is set to witness a monumental development in its technological sector with the establishment of a semiconductor packaging plant, poised to be worth a staggering Rs 25,000 crore.
The announcement by Union Minister
The revelation came from Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar during his address at the Digital India Future Skills summit in Guwahati on Thursday (February 15).
Chandrasekhar disclosed, “Assam is on the brink of setting up a semiconductor packaging plant worth Rs 25,000 crore, which has been proposed by the Tata Group.”
The Tata Group’s initiative to establish a semiconductor processing plant aligns with its vision for technological advancement. Previously, Tata Electronics had expressed intentions to invest Rs 40,000 crore in setting up an electronic center at Jagiroad in Assam.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that discussions between the Tata Group and the state government regarding the semiconductor assembly and packaging plant had been initiated. Subsequently, they sought the necessary approvals from the central government.
Sarma expressed optimism about the potential investment, stating, “If all progresses smoothly, we anticipate a significant investment in the state, fostering a conducive environment for industrial growth. We remain in communication with the Centre and are optimistic about receiving final approval within the next month or two.”
