In a time when moral values often seem overshadowed by greed, a 15-year-old boy from Charilam has shown that integrity still matters. Rahul Ghosh, a Class IX student, became the centre of attention after he returned a bag filled with ₹500 notes that he found near the local market.
Unexpected Discovery Near the Market
Around 9:30 pm, Rahul was heading home after buying items for his mother. As he walked past the western side of the Charilam market, he noticed a bag lying on the ground. Curious, he picked it up and found bundles of currency notes inside. Immediately, he understood that someone must have dropped it by mistake.
Therefore, he decided to act quickly. Instead of keeping the money or ignoring the situation, he chose to return it as soon as possible.

Honesty in Action
Rahul then walked straight to the Bazar Committee office. There, he met the treasurer, Harimadhav Debnath, and the secretary, Madhav Datta. After greeting them, he handed over the bag and requested them to find the rightful owner.
The office bearers were astonished by both the amount of money and Rahul’s honesty. Moreover, they praised him for showing such maturity at a young age. They also assured him that they would make every effort to locate the owner.
School and Community Praise Rahul
Soon after, the news reached his school and neighbourhood. The assistant headmaster of Charilam Vidyajyoti HS School, Sajal Debbarma, expressed deep admiration for Rahul. He said that Rahul’s choice reflects strong values and sets a positive example for other students.
Additionally, post-graduate teacher Ms. Matam Debbarma appreciated Rahul’s gesture. She noted that his decision shows the morals that schools and families aim to build in children.
Both teachers also praised Rahul’s parents. According to them, his family played a key role in helping him develop honesty and discipline.
