Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the holistic development of the state’s tribal communities through the expansion of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS). Speaking at a review meeting on Thursday, he highlighted the state’s efforts to bridge the educational divide. And provide equal opportunities for students in remote tribal areas.
The initiative, which aligns with the Government of India’s vision for inclusive education, aims to offer quality schooling, modern facilities, and skill-based learning for students from tribal backgrounds.
Eklavya Schools: A Pathway to Equality in Education
The Eklavya Model Residential Schools are designed to provide free, high-quality education. From Class VI to XII to students belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST). Each school offers modern infrastructure, residential facilities, and access to extracurricular development programs.
Chief Minister Manik Saha noted that these schools are not just educational institutions but “agents of change” for Tripura’s tribal youth.
He emphasized that the EMRS model will ensure that no child is left behind due to geographical or economic barriers.
The state government, in coordination with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, is focusing on building new EMRS campuses and upgrading existing ones to meet national standards.
Expanding Access Across Remote Regions
Tripura, home to a large tribal population spread across hilly terrains and forested areas, faces unique challenges in providing educational access.
Dr. Saha stated that the government is prioritizing the construction of EMRS in underserved districts, ensuring that every tribal child has access to modern classrooms and qualified teachers.
“Education is the foundation of empowerment,” the Chief Minister said.
“Through EMRS, we are not only building schools but also creating future leaders from our tribal communities.”
He further added that the new schools will be equipped with digital learning tools, science labs, sports facilities, and vocational training units, preparing students for both higher education and employability.
Bridging the Socio-Economic Gap
The Chief Minister also underlined the social and economic transformation that Eklavya Schools bring to tribal regions.
By offering residential education and nutritional support, EMRS ensures that students from remote villages receive the same opportunities as those in urban centers.
The Tripura government is also integrating EMRS programs with tribal welfare and livelihood missions. Ensuring that families benefit from skill training, community engagement, and women empowerment initiatives.
Education experts in the state believe that such a holistic approach will reduce school dropout rates and open new avenues for higher studies among tribal youth.
Strengthening Infrastructure and Teacher Training
In his statement, CM Saha highlighted ongoing collaborations with the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry for strengthening school infrastructure.
The government is also focusing on teacher recruitment and capacity building, ensuring that students receive instruction from trained educators who understand tribal languages and cultures.
To further enhance quality, the Tripura government plans to adopt technology-driven teaching models, including smart classrooms and e-learning modules. Further, this move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for inclusivity and modernization in rural education.
A Step Toward Inclusive Development
Dr. Saha reiterated that the development of tribal communities remains one of the core priorities of his administration. He assured that the government’s efforts through EMRS will not stop at academic education. Thereafter, will also include personality development, moral education, and leadership skills.
“Tribal children have immense potential. With the right opportunities, they can excel in every field,” the Chief Minister said.
He also encouraged parents and local communities to support their children’s education and help build a stronger, self-reliant Tripura.
Investing in Education for a Better Future
The Tripura government’s initiative underlines the importance of investing in quality education as a tool for empowerment. By focusing on Eklavya Schools, the administration aims to transform. But, not only academic outcomes but also the social landscape of tribal regions.
As the state continues its journey toward inclusive growth. Eklavya Schools are set to become symbols of hope, progress, and equal opportunity for thousands of young minds.
