Extensive Traffic Restrictions for Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple

In preparation for the Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple, authorities in Guwahati have implemented extensive traffic restrictions to ensure the safety and smooth movement of pilgrims. The annual festival, which attracts thousands of devotees from across the country, necessitates significant adjustments in the city’s traffic management.

The Guwahati Traffic Police have announced a detailed plan to manage the influx of pilgrims and maintain order during the Mela. Key routes leading to the Kamakhya Temple will see restricted vehicle movement, with specific areas designated as pedestrian zones to accommodate the large number of visitors expected.

The restrictions include barring private vehicles from entering certain high-traffic areas around the temple. Authorities have set up alternative parking zones at various points in the city, where pilgrims can park their vehicles before proceeding to the temple on foot or via shuttle services provided by the administration.

Commissioner of Police, Diganta Borah, emphasized the importance of these measures, citing the need to prevent congestion and ensure the safety of all attendees. Borah assured the public that the police force would be fully deployed to manage the traffic and assist pilgrims, with special teams assigned to monitor key intersections and entry points.

In addition to vehicular restrictions, pedestrian pathways have been clearly marked, and barricades have been erected to guide the flow of foot traffic. Medical aid stations and hydration points have been strategically placed along the routes to support pilgrims, especially during the peak hours of the festival.

Local residents and businesses in the vicinity of the Kamakhya Temple have been advised to cooperate with the traffic regulations and plan their movements accordingly. The administration has also engaged with community leaders and festival organizers to disseminate information and ensure widespread awareness of the new traffic arrangements.

Public transportation services, including buses and autorickshaws, have been adjusted to accommodate the changes, with increased frequency and modified routes to serve the influx of visitors. Special shuttle services will operate from major transit hubs to the temple, providing a convenient travel option for pilgrims.

Authorities have urged devotees and visitors to stay informed about the traffic restrictions and follow the guidelines issued by the police. Updates and real-time information will be available through local media channels and official social media handles.

The extensive traffic management plan aims to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all participants of the Ambubachi Mela, allowing them to focus on the spiritual significance of the event while maintaining public order and safety.
