Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh: Meghalaya filmmaker and National Award winner Dominic Sangma was allegedly assaulted by two men near Rakap village along the Jollang-Rakap road on Wednesday evening. Police said the incident occurred after Sangma reportedly intervened when the men allegedly harassed students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
Sangma heads the Department of Screenwriting at FTII’s Jote campus. His wife, Karry Padu, also alleged that an FTII security guard and four students faced assault and wrongful restraint during the incident. Police have registered an FIR and started an investigation.

Dominic Sangma Allegedly Attacked Near FTII
According to police, Sangma was returning from an evening walk at around 6:30 pm when the incident occurred near Rakap village.
Reports say the filmmaker intervened after he saw two young men allegedly harassing FTII students. The situation reportedly escalated, and the two men allegedly attacked Sangma.
Sangma’s wife, Karry Padu, described the incident in a Facebook post. She alleged that the attackers carried bamboo sticks and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Wife Raises Allegations About Students
Padu also alleged that an FTII security guard and four students faced assault during the incident.
She further alleged that the individuals involved wrongfully restrained the students and security personnel.
Following the incident, Padu called for action against those responsible. She also urged the police and government authorities to investigate the matter.
FIR Registered at Balijan Police Station
Police have registered an FIR at Balijan Police Station in connection with the alleged assault.
The FIR names Techi Nanu and Techi Sanjay, both residents of Rakap village, as the accused.
Police registered the case under Sections 115(2), 117(2), 126 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
