A recent VoteVibeLLP public opinion survey across Assam shows that Gaurav Gogoi’s appointment as Congress State President is being seen as a strategic move. That could significantly improve the party’s chances in upcoming elections.
Majority Supports Gogoi’s Leadership
According to the survey, 52.4% of respondents believe that Gogoi’s elevation will positively impact Congress in Assam.
Henceforth, an additional 14.4% feel it will help the party to some extent.
Only 32% said the move would have no significant impact.
The remaining 1.2% were undecided or unaware of the development.
Survey Methodology
The poll was conducted using Random Digit Dialling (RDD) across all regions of Assam.
A total of over 10,000 respondents participated.
The data was weighted by gender and population distribution to reflect Assam’s demographics.
VoteVibeLLP stated that the margin of error was less than ±3%.
Political Context Behind the Survey
Gaurav Gogoi, son of former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, was appointed recently amid party restructuring efforts.
His clean image, youthful energy, and grassroots connections have been widely acknowledged.
Political analysts believe his appointment could revive Congress in regions where the party lost ground.
What Makes Gogoi a Strong Contender?
Gaurav Gogoi is a three-time MP and has experience on parliamentary panels for defense and foreign affairs.
Also, his strong articulation on national issues and consistent criticism of the ruling BJP have made him popular. Additionally, especially among urban and educated youth.
Voter Demographics Favoring Gogoi
Among respondents aged 18–35, 63% believe his leadership will help Congress.
Although, in rural areas, farmers and small business owners also responded positively.
A significant gender split showed that 56% of female respondents felt encouraged by Gogoi’s focus on youth and women empowerment.
Opposition Reacts Cautiously
The BJP, which currently rules Assam, downplayed the results.
A senior party leader said:
“Surveys don’t win elections. BJP has ground support and a performance record.”
However, the party did not dispute the popularity of Gogoi.
Analysts Say This Could Shift Momentum
Political experts from Guwahati University suggest the Congress’s vote share could grow by 4–5% in key constituencies if Gogoi leads an aggressive campaign.
Dr. Pradeep Choudhury, a political analyst, said:
“His appointment sends a message of generational change, which may energize voters.”
Can Congress Capitalize?
While Gogoi’s appointment is a positive signal. Moreover, Congress still faces organizational and funding challenges.
Grassroots coordination, candidate selection, and booth management will be key in determining how much of this momentum translates to votes.
What’s Next?
Nevertheless, Congress is expected to ramp up outreach campaigns across Assam in the next few months.
Further, door-to-door visits, social media drives, and youth engagements will feature prominently.
Gaurav Gogoi will likely tour all 33 districts, starting with his home turf in Jorhat and Titabar.
This survey clearly indicates that Gaurav Gogoi’s leadership has sparked optimism among voters and party workers alike.
With strategic groundwork, Congress could convert this into electoral gains.
