India and Bangladesh Have Friendly Relations: Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on a four-day visit to India. On Tuesday, Sheikh Hasina was accorded a rousing welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this, PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were present. PM Modi meets Sheikh Hasina at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

After a warm welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina said that India is our friend. Whenever I come to India, it is a matter of happiness for me. Especially because we always remember India’s contribution during our liberation struggle. We have friendly relations. We are cooperating with each other.

He said that our main focus is to eradicate poverty and develop the economy. With all these issues, I feel that we both countries should work together, so that people can have a better life not only in India and Bangladesh, but all over South Asia. That is our main focus.

Simultaneously, Sheikh Hasina said that I hope that there will be a very fruitful discussion between the two countries. Our main objective is to grow economically and also meet the basic needs of our people, which we will be able to do. With friendship you can find a solution to any problem. That’s why we always do this.

Sheikh Hasina has come to India only on Monday. Bangladesh is an important partner of India under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. This visit is very special regarding the relations between the two countries.

Before this, many important agreements have been signed between India and Bangladesh under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina. In these, concrete results have been achieved in many areas including land and sea border demarcation, security, connectivity, development cooperation, cultural exchange, power and energy, trade and commerce, economy, defence.

There can be special discussion on these issues between the two countries
At the same time, the agenda included between the two countries in this visit includes promoting defense cooperation, expanding regional connectivity initiatives and establishing stability in South Asia. India and Bangladesh have sought to create a model for regional cooperation besides reviving several connectivity initiatives in the past few years. Akhaura-Agartala rail link will reopen soon. Also, it is anticipated that Agartala and Chittagong will be connected by air in a few weeks.

Sheikh Hasina met the Foreign Minister on Monday
Soon after arriving in New Delhi on Monday, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. During this, there was a special discussion between the two on issues of bilateral interest. On Monday itself, he also visited Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah. This dargah is famous as a major pilgrimage center in Delhi.

This visit of Hasina will strengthen the ties between the two countries
Prime Minister Hasina was received at the New Delhi airport by Minister of State for Textiles and Railways Darshan Zardosh on her arrival here on Monday. Sheikh Hasina’s visit is significant and will further strengthen the multi-faceted ties between India and Bangladesh.

Significantly, this is her first visit after the two countries touched the 50th year of bilateral ties in 2021. Last year also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence and the 100th birth anniversary of the nation’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
