Indian Army and BRO: Triumph Over Flood Disruption

Troops from the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army, alongside support from the Border Roads Organization (BRO), have achieved a significant milestone by completing the construction of the Bailey bridge over the Teesta River at Chungthang in Sikkim. This accomplishment is noteworthy as it restores communication links severed since October 03, reconnecting flood-affected areas in North Sikkim with the mainland.

The 200-foot Bailey Bridge stands tall as a symbol of resilience and dedication, facilitating the seamless movement of vehicles and swift provision of relief materials to regions impacted by recent floods.

As the longest and heaviest single-span structure of its kind that can be launched, the Bailey Bridge in Sikkim showcases the combined technical prowess and efficiency of the Indian Army and BRO.

In a relentless round-the-clock operation, the BRO initiated construction by building concrete abutments, with Trishakti Sappers completing the bridge in just five days. This swift accomplishment underscores the dedication and competence of the engineering teams.

The inauguration of the bridge, led by Sikkim Minister Samdup Lepcha, was a momentous occasion attended by officials from the Indian Army, BRO, and civil administration. This collaborative spirit played a pivotal role in the success of the project.

Nation Building Commitment: Indian Army’s Enduring Support

The completion of the Chungthang Bailey Bridge is a testament to the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to nation-building and its unwavering support for citizens in times of crisis. This achievement exemplifies the military’s ability to respond swiftly to challenges, reinforcing its pivotal role in enhancing community resilience nationwide.
