In an unannounced move, low-cost carrier IndiGo has successfully trained its aircraft to land at the newly built Donyi Polo airport. The airport is located in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the information being received from the sources, the air connectivity of Arunachal Pradesh will start from October 28. Let us inform that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the historic airport in Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar as part of the exercise to encourage air travel under the UDAN scheme of the Central Government. The move will boost tourism and also strengthen the security of Arunachal as the northeastern state shares international borders with three countries.
It shares an international border of 1,160 km with China, in addition to a few hundred km with Bhutan and Myanmar.
Prime Minister Modi started the first flight service on 27 April 2017 under the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme. The objective of this scheme is to connect small and medium cities with big cities through air service.
The airport at Itanagar is a new beginning for Arunachal Pradesh. This state is rich in tourist places. After the start of the air service, now a large number of international and domestic tourists will come here. The nearest airport to Itanagar is North Lakhimpur in Assam and it is about 57 kms away. Tourists going to the state capital will have to travel through the North Lakhimpur airport.
