Is this The End of Shri Biplab Kumar Deb’s “Great Plans” for Tripura?

The Ex-cm Shri Biplab Kumar Deb’s plans to strengthen the economy of the state, protect the society and culture, and develop the state have been the main focuses during his tenure as Chief Minister of Tripura. Many schemes and developments in different sectors were undertaken by the BJP-IPFT government under the guidance of Shri Biplab Kumar Deb as a Chief Minister. He was asked to step down from his post and Dr. Manik Saha took the oath as the new Chief Minister of Tripura on 15 May 2022.

In the vision to develop the economy and increase the business status of the state and make the transport system better, the roads were repaired and new roads were also made in many parts of the state. The better condition of the road has decreased the time distance from one destination to another, making the transportation system better. To boost the investments and industries, the government of Tripura under Shri Biplab Kumar Deb also launched the “Tripura Industrial Investment Promotion Incentive Scheme”, “Tripura IT Startup Scheme” and many other numerous schemes during his duration as CM of the state.

Tourism has also been one of the main focuses of Ex-cm Shri BIplab Kumar Deb during his tenure as CM of the state. The Dumbur Lake which has been and still is one of the tourist spots of Tripura has been upgraded with better facilities and with modern equipment like water motorbikes, floating jetties and also newly constructed helipad, and the better resort rooms for the tourists.

Ex-cm Shri Biplab Kumar Deb has also been active in the conservation of the social and cultural heritage of the Bangali and the Indigenous people of Tripura. The ‘Baramura’ and ‘Atharamura’ have been renamed with the native dialect ‘Hathai Kotor’ and ‘Hachuk Berem’ respectively. The ‘Agartala Airport’ has also been renamed ‘Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport’ in honor of the Late King of Tripura Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Debbarma Bahadur.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) government has been promoting ‘risa’ since they came to power in 2018 as a symbol of their commitment to empowering tribes. Ex-cm Shri Biplab Kumar Deb has been trying to get a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for ‘risa’ to popularise it internationally.

“Risa will get Geographical Indication (GI) tagging. Culture and tradition will get a new direction. GI tagging will be done to give international recognition to risa. The (state) government will submit necessary documents before the center on this issue”- said Ex-cm Shri Biplab Kumar Deb.

The change in the Chief Minister created uncertainty among the citizens and the questions are raised is it the end of Shri Biplab Kumar Deb’s ‘Great Plans’ for Tripura? The answer is yet to be known in the future.
