Man Arrested in Manipur’s Capital for Installing Explosive

Another accused has been arrested for allegedly installing an improvised explosive device near a basketball ground in Manipur’s capital Imphal. He is said to be a member of the banned terrorist organization Al Qaeda.

According to the police, a person named Kshetramayam Bhogendro Singh has been taken into custody in connection with the installation of an IED near the Basketball Ground in Singjamei Chingmakha, Imphal. Assam’s Morigaon district superintendent of police Aparna N. Told that both the persons arrested so far in the arrested case are affiliated to the banned terrorist organization.

Both have been arrested from Morigaon. The two suspected terrorists were identified as Musadiq Hussain and Ikramul Islam. Police are interrogating them and getting information about terrorist acts. Let us tell you, last month two suspected terrorists of Ansarullah Bangla team were arrested from Morigaon.

Prior to this, on August 21, the Assam Police had arrested two suspected terrorists belonging to the Indian Subcontinent Unit (AQIS) of Al Qaeda and Ansarullah Bangla terrorist groups in Goalpara district. They were identified as Imam Abdus Subhan and Jalaluddin Sheikh.

So far three madrasas have been demolished
Last month, the Morigaon district administration destroyed a madrasa in Moirabari. Terrorist activities were busted here. Forty people, including Imams and madrasa teachers, have been arrested for their links with terrorist organizations. Till now the Assam administration has demolished three madrasas in the state. Apart from AQIS, one more such educational institution was demolished by the local people themselves. A cleric associated with this was arrested on charges of anti-national activities. There were reports that some terrorists in the guise of religious teachers have entered Assam and are quietly engaged in their subversive and anti-national activities.

CM Sarma’s statement
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said that six Bangladeshi nationals, who are members of the Ansarullah Bangla Team and Al Qaeda, had entered the state in 2016-17. Assam Police had arrested one of them and five are still absconding. The Chief Minister reiterated that a strict vigil would be kept on the Islamic teachers coming to the state. Apart from this, the state is developing a portal where their details will be recorded.
