The Special Court in the state has sentenced lifetime imprisonment to Joydeep Mandal, a 27-year-old man for showing inhuman behavior and raping a two-year-old innocent girl at Muhuripur village in south Tripura District back in February 2020.
The special court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 along with lifetime imprisonment, on the convict. The penalty will be given to the victim.
The crime took place on 7 February 2020, at around 8:30 PM, The convict was the victim’s father’s relative and had visited their house to spend the night, When he found the two-year-old girl alone, 27-year-old Joydeb raped her.
On this, the two-year-old started screaming and crying, Hearing the girl’s cry, the victim’s mother rushed into the room and found that her daughter sustained injuries to her head and Joydeb was sleeping with the girl. She rescued her daughter and Joydeb Mandal escaped from their house.
Later, the victim’s family complained and the police started the investigation to reach the culprit, Following which Joydep Mandal was arrested.
Mandal, a resident of RK Ganj village in Santir Bazzar, was arrested and found guilty under section 376(2)(i)of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the POSCO Act.
