In a major move to ensure border security, immigration control, and drug eradication, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reaffirmed his government’s commitment to maintaining law and order while addressing a public interaction event in Kumbi, Bishnupur district, on Saturday.
Singh emphasized that his government is focused on long-term peace and stability in the state, ensuring that future generations can thrive without security concerns, “We are resolute in our mission to secure the border, identify new immigrants, regulate foreign entry through pass issuance, and completely eradicate drugs from the state. This is a pledge made by the BJP and the state government, and we will not rest until these goals are fully realized,” Singh stated.
Manipur Government’s Focus on Border Security and Immigration Control
Strengthening Border Security
Manipur, which shares a border with Myanmar, has long faced challenges related to illegal immigration and border infiltration. The Chief Minister reassured citizens that strict measures are being taken to secure the state’s borders and regulate foreign entry.
The state government has taken a proactive stance in identifying new immigrants, ensuring that only those with proper documentation are allowed to stay.
Implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP)
Highlighting the BJP’s role in protecting Manipur’s indigenous population, Singh said, “Only the BJP can save Manipur and its people. No other party has done anything but divide and destabilize the state. For years, the people of Manipur had been demanding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to protect the local population, and it was only the BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that delivered this promise.”
The Inner Line Permit (ILP) was implemented to regulate the entry of outsiders into Manipur, preventing unauthorized settlement and protecting the interests of local communities.
Manipur’s War on Drugs: A Zero-Tolerance Policy
Eradicating Drug Menace from Manipur
The drug menace has been a major challenge for Manipur, with illegal drug trafficking affecting youth and local communities. The state has launched multiple crackdowns on drug cartels and poppy cultivation, aiming for complete eradication of drugs.
Singh reassured citizens that the state government remains unwavering in its anti-drug mission, with continuous efforts to dismantle drug networks and bring perpetrators to justice.
Ensuring the Safe Return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
Rehabilitation and Employment for Displaced Citizens
The recent ethnic conflict in Manipur led to the displacement of thousands of people. Singh addressed concerns regarding internally displaced persons (IDPs) and assured that only safe areas would be repopulated. “We have allowed about 2,000 people to return to areas that have been deemed safe. The rest will be allowed to return only after thorough assessment. Currently, more than 500 displaced individuals have been provided with employment,” Singh shared.
Addressing the Recent Violence in Manipur
Singh provided insights into the recent unrest, stating that violence erupted when armed assailants targeted civilians, set homes on fire, and forced people to flee. “It is our duty to ensure that those displaced can return to their homes safely. Had the government been responsible for starting the conflict, we would have declared its end already, but that is not the case,” Singh clarified.
A Stronger, Safer Manipur
The Chief Minister’s strong stance on border security, immigration control, and drug eradication reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring long-term peace and stability in Manipur. By implementing strict border controls, regulating immigration, tackling drug-related crimes, and rehabilitating displaced individuals, the government is making significant strides in securing the future of Manipur.
Singh’s administration has prioritized development, security, and the well-being of Manipur’s indigenous population. The successful enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), proactive border security measures, and anti-drug initiatives signal a clear roadmap for the state’s progress.
As Manipur continues to navigate its challenges, the Chief Minister has called upon citizens to support the government’s initiatives and work together for a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Manipur.
