Nagaland Civic Body Polls Scheduled for June 26

The Nagaland State Election Commission has unveiled the timetable for the upcoming civic body elections across the state.

In a statement issued by state election commissioner TJ Longkumer, the polls for three municipal councils and 36 town councils are slated for June 26.

Nomination filing spans from June 7 to June 11, with the list of accepted nominations posted on June 12. Scrutiny of these nominations is scheduled for June 13, followed by the publication of the final list of candidates on June 14.

Revisions to nomination scrutiny orders can be submitted from June 15 to June 18, with decisions on these applications expected by June 19. Candidates have until June 20 to withdraw from the race. The finalized list of candidates and polling stations will be released on June 20, post 3 pm.

The election day, June 26, may be followed by a repoll on June 28 if necessary, with the counting and announcement of results set for June 29.

Additionally, the State Election Commission has approved the appointment of returning officers and assistant returning officers for various municipalities as designated by respective deputy commissioners, in accordance with Rule 20 of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules, 2023.

Simultaneously, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been activated from the announcement of the poll until the conclusion of the electoral process.
