Nagaland has got its second railway station at Shokhuvi after a gap of more than 100 years. The first railway station in Nagaland was built at Dimapur 119 years ago in the year 1903. The second station was inaugurated by CM Neiphiu Rio by flagging off the Doni Polo Express from Shokhuwi Railway Station. This train used to run daily between Guwahati in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh. Now this train service has been extended to Shokhuvi, which is a few kilometers away from Dimapur.
Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh connected by train service
According to the information, with the extension of Doni Polo Express to Shokhuvi Railway Station, now Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will be directly connected by train service. Speaking at the launch of the railway station, the Chief Minister said that it was a historic day for Nagaland as the state got its second railway terminal passenger services on the Dhansari-Sokhuvi railway line after a gap of more than 100 years.
People of Assam will also benefit
The Chief Minister further requested the Railway officials to ensure that Dimapur Railway Station is developed properly so that it benefits everyone. He said that it not only benefits the people of Nagaland but also the people of neighboring districts of Assam will also take advantage of its service.

Anshul Gupta, General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said that it is a proud moment for Indian Railways and NFR that this big effort is being made to connect all the capitals of North Eastern States with railways in a time bound manner.
New route will be available in 2024
In addition, the foundation stone of a 90-km broad gauge route from Dhansiri in Assam to Jubja in Kohima district of Nagaland was laid for which work is underway and the deadline has been extended from 2020 to 2024. Gupta said that the said line would be extended up to Aizawl via New Kohima and Imphal.
