The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has officially revised the timings for 23 trains operating across its extensive network. Henceforth, this significant change in NFR train timings will be rolled out in phases from June 29 to July 5, 2025.
Railway officials confirmed that the updated schedules are intended to boost punctuality and ensure smoother travel for passengers navigating the northeastern corridor.
Why NFR Train Timings Are Changing
Speaking to the media, an NFR spokesperson said:
“Frequent delays and congestion have prompted a thorough review of operational schedules. These revised NFR train timings aim to ensure trains depart and arrive on time while reducing bottlenecks at major junctions.”
The new schedules have been designed after extensive data analysis of train movements over the past year.
Changes Across Key Routes
Passengers can expect alterations in departure and arrival times on various long-distance and intercity routes. Notably, several popular trains connecting Guwahati, Siliguri, New Jalpaiguri, and Dibrugarh will operate under revised schedules.
Examples of New Timings
Some highlights include:
- The Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Intercity Express will now depart Guwahati at 6:45 AM instead of 7:10 AM.
- The Dibrugarh–Guwahati Express will reach Guwahati at 8:15 PM, thirty minutes earlier than its previous arrival time.
- The Kamakhya–Delhi Brahmaputra Mail will see slight adjustments in intermediate halts to improve punctuality.
Railway authorities have published the updated timetable on the official NFR website for passenger reference.
Passenger Comfort and Connectivity
Officials assured that the changes are passenger-centric, focusing on seamless connections between trains, especially at major junctions like Guwahati and Siliguri.
“Passengers often face tight transfer windows between trains. The revised NFR train timings aim to provide enough buffer time for smooth transfers,” the spokesperson added.
These modifications are expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters. And further, long-distance travellers alike.
Stakeholders’ Response
Rail user associations have welcomed the move but urged NFR to widely publicise the new schedules to avoid confusion.
Pranab Das, a representative of the Northeast Rail Passengers Association, said:
“This is a step in the right direction. However, we request that NFR ensure proper announcements through all possible channels, including stations, digital apps, and media.”
Railways’ Push for Punctuality
The timetable update is part of a larger drive under Indian Railways’ ‘Mission Raftaar’ aimed at increasing average speeds and reducing delays.
According to Indian Railways, improved punctuality enhances customer satisfaction, reduces fuel costs, and optimises network usage.
NFR has also undertaken infrastructure upgrades, including track doubling and signalling improvements. Moreover, which are expected to further support punctual operations.
