Notice to NPP-UDP in Meghalaya, First List of Congress Candidates in Nagaland Released

FR Kharkongor said on Saturday that in West Shillong constituency, candidates of NPP and UDP distributed free gifts to voters in violation of the model code of conduct. Assembly elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura will be held simultaneously on February 27 and results will be declared on March 2.

The Election Commission has issued show cause notices to the National People’s Party (NPP) and the United Democratic Party (UDP) for violating the Model Code of Conduct in the Meghalaya Assembly elections. At the same time, the Congress on Saturday released the first list of 21 candidates for the Nagaland Assembly elections. State Congress President K. Theri (K Therie) has been nominated from Dimapur-I seat.

NPP candidate denies the allegations

Rapsang had recently quit the Congress to join the ruling NPP led by Conrad Sangma. Last time he was elected MLA on the ticket of the opposition Congress. He has refused to distribute freebies in violation of the model code of conduct. He said that pressure cookers were distributed from his MLA fund much before the announcement of elections.

Congress released the first list of candidates for the Nagaland Assembly elections

On the other hand, the Congress on Saturday released the first list of 21 candidates for the Nagaland Assembly elections. K. Theri (K Therie) has been nominated from Dimapur-I seat. The list of candidates was released after a meeting of the Central Election Committee headed by Mallikarjun Kharge. In a statement, the party said that the Central Election Committee of the Congress has approved the names of the candidates for the upcoming Nagaland Assembly elections.

Congress has fielded S Amento Chisti from Dimapur-II (ST), V Lasuh from Dimapur-III (ST), Akvi Zhimomi from Ghasapani-I and Rosie Thomas from Tenning (ST). Assembly elections in Nagaland will be held on February 27 and results will be declared on March 2. The last date for filing nominations is February 7.
