The United Opposition Forum in Assam strongly condemns the recent attacks on Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and Bhupen Borah, during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam’s Sonitpur. In response to these incidents, the forum has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In a press conference, MLA Akhil Gogoi of Sivasagar, representing the United Opposition Forum, expressed strong condemnation for the alleged attacks on Congress leaders. The incidents were characterized as a disgraceful representation of Assam’s political landscape.

Akhil Gogoi, on behalf of the United Opposition Forum, called for the resignation of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Gogoi argued that even if the attack occurred without Sarma’s knowledge, he remains responsible for the failure to maintain law and order during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Accusing the BJP-led government in Assam, Gogoi asserted that the state is not under a jungle raj but is rather being governed in a dictatorial manner reminiscent of Hitler’s regime. The demand for Sarma’s resignation is rooted in the perceived inadequacy of security measures during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Gogoi highlighted the current situation in the country, describing it as an undeclared Emergency-like scenario with a lack of security for the general public. The call for resignation reflects the forum’s dissatisfaction with the governance and security arrangements under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah reportedly faced an assault, while the car of General Secretary Jairam Ramesh was targeted by miscreants in Assam’s Sonitpur district during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on January 21.
