Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury claimed on Sunday that over 51,000 government posts remain vacant across multiple departments in Tripura. He based his claims on official data provided by ministers during the recent state Assembly session.
Chaudhury stated that the vacancy figures were obtained in response to questions raised by opposition MLAs, and added that data from 18 to 19 departments are still awaited, suggesting that the actual number of unfilled posts could be significantly higher.
Severe Staff Shortage in Key Government Departments
“Most of the major departments are suffering from a serious manpower crisis,” said Chaudhury, highlighting the Education Department, which reportedly has more than 20,000 vacant teaching posts. He criticized the BJP-led state government’s recent job fairs and recruitment drives, describing them as “a few drops of water in a desert.”
Allegations of Recruitment Irregularities
Chaudhury also alleged large-scale irregularities in the state’s recruitment process. He questioned how non-residents from West Bengal were selected for Group D posts in Tripura, and referenced a viral video that allegedly shows a BJP Panchayat Samiti member securing a job in jail police without any formal interview.
“These incidents expose the growing corruption and lack of transparency in public recruitment under the current regime,” he said, demanding that the government take immediate and transparent steps to fill the vacant positions.
Demand for Transparent Hiring Process
The Leader of Opposition has called for a comprehensive audit of the current recruitment system and urged the state to implement fair and transparent hiring mechanisms to address the growing concerns of job aspirants and the general public.
