Quant Solar IIT Guwahati Incubated Start-Up Leads the Clean-Tech Revolution

Quant Solar Technologies Private Limited, a leading clean-tech start-up incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) in Assam, has emerged as a pioneer in floating solar technology in India. This innovative approach to harnessing solar energy not only contributes to the renewable energy landscape but also addresses the crucial need for water conservation.

Floating Quant Solar Plants: The Third Pillar of Solar Installations

Quant Solar has played a pivotal role in advancing the concept of floating solar plants, establishing them as the third pillar alongside rooftop solar and ground-mounted solar installations. These plants are strategically positioned on water bodies such as dams and reservoirs, effectively curbing evaporation losses by up to 70 percent. The integration of floating solar technology into existing reservoirs aligns seamlessly with national solar goals while leaving minimal environmental impact at the conclusion of the project lifecycle.

Transformative Impact and Environmental Sustainability

Co-Founder and Director of Quant Solar Technologies, Pankaj Kumar, emphasized the transformative impact of their innovative start-up. Beyond clean energy production, the technology contributes to water conservation, optimizes land usage, enhances power generation through the cooling effects of water, and promotes aquatic life. Kumar expressed the monumental leap towards environmental sustainability, citing the enormous potential to make a significant impact given the abundance of reservoirs and water bodies across the country.

Global Recognition and Collaboration

Quant Solar Technologies has strategically aligned itself with global leaders in the field by joining a prestigious consortium led by DNV in the Netherlands. This collaboration positions Quant Solar as a key player in shaping global standards for floating solar plants. Siddhant Agarwal, Co-Founder and Director, highlighted the start-up’s commitment to innovation within the floating solar sector, envisioning substantial contributions to environmental conservation and the ushering in of a new era of sustainable power solutions.

IIT Guwahati’s Nurturing Environment

The collaborative and supportive environment at IIT Guwahati has been instrumental in Quant Solar Technologies’ journey. The institute’s commitment to fostering innovation and providing essential resources has empowered start-ups like Quant Solar to lead the charge in creating sustainable solutions. Prof. Senthilmurugan Subbiah, Chairperson of IITG- TIC, emphasized that Quant Solar is not merely an emerging start-up but a significant contributor to environmental sustainability.

Achievements and Ongoing Commitment

Since its inception, Quant Solar has collaborated with multiple public sector enterprises, state government bodies, and private companies. Notably, the start-up has delivered India’s first megawatt-scale Floating Solar Plant (FSP) with a capacity of 2 MW and one of the world’s largest FSPs of 36 MW for the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). In its ongoing incubation journey at IIT Guwahati, Quant Solar Technologies remains steadfast in its commitment to continuously innovate advanced technologies within the realm of clean tech.
