The Second National Lok Adalat for the year 2025 was successfully held across Tripura on May 11 (Saturday), aiming to clear a backlog of 21,410 pending cases. The initiative was part of the national effort to expedite the resolution of various legal disputes and alleviate the burden on the state’s judicial system.
According to Juma Datta Chowdhury, Member Secretary of Tripura State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) directed the setup of 40 courts across Tripura, including the High Court, to resolve multiple types of pending cases. These included issues related to Motor Vehicle Act violations, appeals, negotiable instrument (NI) Act cases, matrimonial disputes, civil and criminal compoundable cases, family disputes, non-performing asset cases from banks, and traffic challans.
Ms. Chowdhury further mentioned that, in total, 21,410 cases were taken up for resolution, including 4 pre-litigative cases. Among the major categories of cases were motor vehicle accidents (MACT cases), land disputes, traffic challan disputes, cheque bounce cases (NI Act), and matrimonial disputes. The event saw active participation from citizens, with a significant number of cases being settled across the eight districts of Tripura, including Agartala.
A special bench was set up at the Tripura High Court to resolve several pending appeals and litigation cases, with many cases being successfully disposed of during the event.
The National Lok Adalat is a remarkable initiative designed to provide quicker, more accessible justice for citizens, especially in cases that can be resolved amicably. It also reflects the state’s commitment to improving the efficiency of its judicial process and providing justice to the people in a timely manner.
