Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the second round of talks with Assam is likely to begin by the end of this month to resolve the border dispute.
Assam and Meghalaya have identified 12 disputed areas along the inter-state border. In the first phase, the two northeastern states resolved differences in six areas and signed an agreement in March.
“We should hold official talks (for the remaining six areas) in November,” Sangma told reporters after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
He said that work has started for the remaining six areas and various committees formed on the issue are coordinating.
“We should have the first round of meetings with all the regional committees and hopefully we will be able to start the second round of talks this month,” he said.
Sangma said that he had recently spoken to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The two states will be able to hold talks after the North Eastern Olympic Games are over.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet in its meeting on Wednesday approved the repeal of the Gaming Act 2021, aimed at promoting gaming parlors and casinos in the state.
