Senior Congress leader in Tripura Piyush Kanti Biswas joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in New Delhi on Wednesday. This information has been given in the statement issued by the party.
Elections to the 60-member assembly in Tripura are likely to be held early next year. Piyush Kanti Biswas, a former Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president, along with several other Congress leaders from the northeastern state, joined the party in the national capital in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
Other Congress leaders who have joined TMC include former Tripura PCC general secretaries-Tejen Das and Anant Banerjee, former state Congress working president Purnita Chakma and former Tripura Youth Congress general secretary Samarendra Ghosh.
