Saijak Debbarma got the second position in the 5th MMA India National Championship 2022 held at Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh on Sunday 22 May 2022. Saijak made his debut in MMA under the category of 48 kg (106 lbs) and reached the final but unfortunately lost the match against his opponent from Mizoram.
“He was doing really well and could have even won the match but due to some slight mistakes in ground techniques, he lost in the final bout against his opponent from Mizoram who has much more experience in MMA than him”, said the Director and Technical Director of MMA Tripura Mr. Kru Raymond Boncher.
Coming from a Muaythai background from Hatkata, Khowai to winning a silver medal in MMA at a national level, Saijak Debbarma has created a history for MMA Tripura. The ‘Tripura State Mixed Martial Arts Association’ represented Tripura in the 5th MMA India National Championship 2022 in Madhya Pradesh with four fighters – Saijak Debbarma, Swarajya Sinha, Subhrajit Malakar, and Lalringngheta Darlong along with their coach Mr. Chandra Kanta Debbarma. Among the four fighters, Saijak reached the final, and unfortunately, others could not make it to the semi-finals.
The ‘Tripura State Mixed Martial Arts Association’ conducted several seminars and selected the four fighters to represent the state at the national level on 10 April 2022 which was sponsored by TTAADC, Chongkhleng Graphics, and UTF.
