Suspected IED Blast Near Harijan Colony in Meghalaya


Late on Saturday evening, a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bomb detonated near the Harijan Colony in Them Iew Mawlong, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, specifically at the Shillong City Bus Syndicate area. The blast occurred inside a small abandoned tin structure, causing damage to nearby property.

Details of the Blast

The explosion took place in an area often used by locals for garbage disposal. Despite the intensity of the blast, no casualties have been reported as of now. However, one person sustained injuries and was promptly taken to Woodland Hospital for medical attention. Additionally, one shop in the vicinity suffered damage due to the explosion.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Local law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident, cordoning off the affected area. A bomb squad was deployed to assess the situation and ensure the safety of the surroundings. The Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills District released a statement late last night, confirming the blast near the Syndicate Bus Stand, in close proximity to Punjabi Lane, around 10:30 p.m. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties, and the damage was primarily limited to the small abandoned tin structure and a few nearby window panes.
