In Agartala, The state election commission (SEC) has initiated the preparation of the final electoral rolls for conducting elections in Tripura village committees (VCs) of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Village elections are really important as the Assembly elections are coming at the start of next year which are said to be held on March 3rd, last year the elections were abolished due to covid pandemic.
587 Village committees are similar to gram panchayat and cover 68 percent of Tripura land which is 10,491 square km and falls under the autonomous district council.
The draft will be published on September 16 in this draft the claims and objections will be allowed from 16 to 22 September to pave the way for holding VC elections.
The senior official addressed the process by saying “The electoral rolls for the Village committee constituencies shall be State Assembly constituencies for the time being in force”.
The ruling party of the tribal council is seeking elections to village committees at the earliest.
