Forest officials in Assam on Thursday arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the illegal trade in rhino horns in the Golaghat district. Earlier this year, a case of poachers using tranquilizers to remove rhino horns came to light in Assam’s Orang National Park. Since then the Assam Forest Department is facing a new challenge to protect the one-horned rhinoceros in the state.

According to reports, poachers in the national park chopped off an adult rhinoceros without killing it. The forest officials came to know about the incident on 9 May. An adult male rhino, aged 10-12 years, was found in the Muwamari area inside the forest.
