The Odisha Transport Authority has canceled the driving licenses of 12545 bike riders for driving bikes without helmets and violating traffic rules. Along with this, e-challan has also been issued to a total of 24474 people.

According to the information released by the State Transport Authority Department, between August 16 and September 30, a total fine of Rs 63 lakh 98 thousand 118 was collected from those who violated the traffic rules and did not wear helmets under the special campaign on behalf of the Transport Department on the national and state highways. has gone.

The driving licenses of 1254 people who did not wear helmets only have been canceled. 888 vehicles have been confiscated for driving without a driving license.

Those traveling without helmet will be punished

Additional Transport Commissioner Lalmohan Sethi said in this regard that a special drive has been started by the authority to reduce road accidents. Its main objective is to make people aware to reduce road accidents.

The drive was intensified to crack down on those riding without helmets as most of the accidents happen on national and state highways with bicyclists.

Significantly, in the year 2021, a total of 1308 people, including 868 bike riders and 440 people sitting behind, lost their lives in road accidents. Most of them were not wearing helmets.

The department said that 1280 bike riders were seriously injured and 747 had minor injuries. In such a situation, along with making people aware, action has been taken against those who do not wear helmets and violate traffic rules.
