In a heart-wrenching incident, an 82-year-old woman was found residing with the body of her deceased son for eight days in Agartala, Tripura’s capital.
Discovery in Shivnagar Area
The unfortunate event unfolded in the Shivnagar area of Agartala city, where the elderly woman had been living in a state of helplessness.
Reports suggest that Kalyani Sur Chowdhury had been bedridden for years and relied on her son Sudhir (54) for assistance. Sudhir, who lived with his mother, remained the sole caretaker after his wife left the household three years ago due to a family dispute.
Mrinal Paul, the officer-in-charge of the Maharagang Bazar police outpost, explained, “Neighbours raised concerns about a foul odour emanating from the house. Upon investigation, we found the deceased’s body on the bed, while his infirm mother was in another room.” The police, accompanied by an executive magistrate, entered the house and discovered the distressing scene.
The elderly woman, paralyzed and unable to care for herself, was immediately taken to a nearby health center. She occupied a separate room within the house, where empty alcohol bottles were found.
While no visible injuries were detected on Sudhir’s body, authorities suspect that excessive alcohol consumption may have led to his demise. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
