Tripura Announces TTAADC Village Committee Elections, Polling on September 28

The State Election Commission (SEC), Tripura, has announced the long-awaited general elections to the Village Committees (VCs) under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Polling will take place on September 28, 2026, across 587 Village Committees. Voters will elect representatives for 4,597 seats spread across 2,634 constituencies.

The SEC will count votes on October 5, starting at 7:00 AM, and aims to complete the entire election process by October 8. With the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has also come into force across the poll-bound Village Committee areas.

Election Schedule Announced

State Election Commissioner PK Chakraborty announced the election schedule on August 31.

The SEC will issue the election notification on September 1. Candidates can submit their nominations until September 8, while officials will scrutinise the nomination papers on September 9.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations until September 11. After that, the final contesting candidates will take part in the September 28 polling.

Elections Cover 587 Village Committees

The election will cover 587 Village Committees under the TTAADC. These committees include 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats.

The elections come after a prolonged gap. The term of the previous elected Village Committees ended on March 8, 2021.

The SEC had started preparations in 2022. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent legal challenges prevented the Commission from holding the elections.

Nearly 9.62 Lakh Voters Eligible

According to the final electoral rolls, 9,61,977 voters can participate in the elections.

The voter list includes 4,82,041 male voters, 4,79,930 female voters and six third-gender voters.

The SEC has identified 1,550 polling stations across the election areas to conduct voting.

Ballot Boxes to Be Used

Voters will cast their votes using ballot boxes. The SEC said officials will maintain the secrecy of voting throughout the process.

Authorities will establish counting centres at Block Headquarters or other designated locations. Counting will begin on October 5 at 7:00 AM.

Large Election Machinery Deployed

The SEC has appointed District Magistrates and Collectors across all eight districts as District Election Officers.

Meanwhile, BDOs from 52 Rural Development Blocks will serve as Electoral Registration Officers. The Commission has also appointed 231 Assistant Returning Officers and 373 Sector Officers.

Around 8,500 polling personnel are expected to take part in the election process.

Security Arrangements Reviewed

The SEC has reviewed security arrangements with the Police Administration. Authorities will deploy adequate security personnel across the polling areas to maintain law and order.

The Commission aims to ensure peaceful voting and prevent disruptions during polling and counting.

Model Code of Conduct Comes Into Force

Following the election announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect immediately in all Village Committee areas under the TTAADC.

The SEC said its preparations and security arrangements would help ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.
