Tripura has taken a bold and pioneering step in transforming the state’s education landscape by organizing the Saharsh Utsav 2025, an initiative that places emotional learning and student well-being at the heart of academic development. Held across government and government-aided schools, this unique program aims to create a supportive, inclusive, and emotionally intelligent learning environment for students of all backgrounds.

Spearheaded by the state’s Department of Education, Saharsh Utsav is not just a celebration but a movement to shift the focus of learning beyond textbooks and examinations. The initiative reflects Tripura’s commitment to aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes experiential and value-based education.

This year’s edition of Saharsh Utsav included interactive sessions, storytelling, art-based learning, games, music, and activities designed to foster empathy, teamwork, and emotional resilience among students. Teachers were trained to facilitate discussions that helped children express their feelings, build confidence, and develop life skills.

Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, while inaugurating the festival, stated that emotional and social learning are essential components of a well-rounded education system. He emphasized that schools must be safe spaces where children feel heard, understood, and inspired to grow both emotionally and academically.

The Saharsh initiative is inspired by the idea that education should be joyful, student-centric, and sensitive to individual needs. Over 2,000 schools across the state participated in this week-long celebration, drawing positive responses from students, teachers, and parents alike. The festival served as a platform for students to break free from routine academics and engage in creative, expressive, and collaborative learning experiences.

One of the standout features of the Saharsh Utsav was the emphasis on “emotional check-ins,” a practice where students begin their day by sharing their feelings in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Teachers also took part in these sessions, creating a sense of equality and mutual respect in the classroom.

Workshops on mental health awareness, stress management, and building healthy friendships were conducted as part of the Utsav. Special modules were also introduced for students with learning difficulties, ensuring that the benefits of emotional learning reached every child regardless of their background or abilities.

Tripura’s approach has earned praise from education experts across the country. Many believe that the state is setting a powerful example for others to follow, especially at a time when the pandemic has underscored the importance of mental health and emotional well-being in schools.

The success of Saharsh Utsav 2025 is also attributed to the training and empowerment of teachers. Before the festival, hundreds of educators underwent special workshops on empathetic teaching practices, emotional literacy, and how to handle classroom challenges with compassion and patience. This shift in mindset has already begun to show results, with many schools reporting improved student-teacher relationships and greater classroom engagement.

According to the Education Department, Saharsh Utsav is only the beginning. Plans are underway to institutionalize emotional learning as a core part of the school curriculum. This includes weekly activity sessions, teacher mentoring programs, and community engagement drives aimed at creating a more emotionally aware society.

Parents have also welcomed the initiative, noting that their children are more open, communicative, and positive since participating in the Utsav. Many have called for such programs to be held more frequently and integrated into regular school activities.

As Tripura leads this education reform with Saharsh Utsav, the state is redefining what it means to educate a child in the 21st century. By focusing on emotional intelligence, well-being, and holistic development, Tripura is building not just brighter students, but stronger individuals and compassionate citizens.

The success of this initiative positions Tripura as a national model for educational innovation—one that values the heart as much as the mind.
