The Tripura child rape and murder case has shocked the entire state. A 14-month-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Panisagar, North Tripura. Authorities arrested the 28-year-old accused, Jalal Uddin, from Cachar, Assam, within 24 hours. The incident has ignited outrage, with citizens demanding immediate justice and stronger child protection measures.
The child had been visiting her uncle’s home when she was allegedly kidnapped on October 11. Police recovered her body the next day near a remote rubber plantation.
Tripura Police and Assam Coordination Lead to Arrest
Acting quickly, Tripura Police coordinated with Assam Police to track the suspect. The joint team apprehended him at a relative’s house in Cachar.
North Tripura SP Bhanupada Chakraborty said:
“Based on intelligence and digital surveillance, we detained the accused and brought him to Tripura for investigation. We are committed to ensuring justice swiftly.”
Moreover, preliminary forensic evidence and witness statements indicate the child suffered sexual assault before her death. Police filed a case under Sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder), and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
Public Outrage and Demand for Justice

Furthermore, the state government instructed the Home Department to transfer the case to a fast-track court. Officials confirmed that the family would receive ₹5 lakh ex-gratia compensation and full legal support during the trial.

Child rights activist Dr. Ruma Debnath emphasized:
“We must prevent such crimes through awareness, community vigilance, and child safety education. Punishment alone is not enough.”

The tragedy drew nationwide attention. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police cooperation, stating:

Forensic experts from Agartala Forensic Science Laboratory are analyzing DNA and other evidence. The autopsy confirmed injuries consistent with sexual assault.
