In light of escalating regional tensions following the ongoing Indo-Pakistan conflict, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha convened a high-level security review meeting today at his official residence in Agartala. The meeting was focused on the current security situation along the India-Bangladesh border, which has seen increasing concerns over infiltration and cross-border threats.

Present at the meeting were Tripura DGP Amitava Ranjan, senior officials of the Assam Rifles, CRPF, and BSF, along with top civil administration authorities. The discussions were reportedly centered on reviewing the prevailing security profile along the sensitive border with Bangladesh, particularly in the wake of intelligence reports suggesting increased cross-border infiltration.

While official details of the meeting remain undisclosed, sources familiar with the matter revealed that heightened infiltration activities and possible Pakistani influence on extremist groups operating in Bangladesh were key points of concern. Since the ouster of the Awami League government in August 2024, there has been a marked rise in illegal crossings from Bangladesh into Indian territory, reportedly fueled by instability and political turmoil across the border.

Sources also hinted at unconfirmed reports of Pakistani ISI operatives arriving in Bangladesh to coordinate with local extremist and criminal elements. The apparent objective, according to intelligence inputs, is to destabilize India’s northeast region and shift attention from mounting pressure on Pakistan’s western front.

“The Chief Minister is believed to have instructed all security agencies to remain on the highest level of alert and to coordinate closely to counter any emerging threats,” a senior official said on condition of anonymity.

Tripura shares an 856-kilometer-long border with Bangladesh, much of which is porous and vulnerable to illegal crossings. Security forces, including the Border Security Force (BSF), have been working round-the-clock to monitor and manage the challenging terrain.

This latest security review underscores the strategic importance of Tripura in the broader geopolitical context of South Asia, particularly as regional players recalibrate their positions amid ongoing Indo-Pak hostilities.
