Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated several newly developed infrastructure projects in Agartala on Tuesday. The projects focus on urban development, public spaces and civic facilities.
The main highlight was the Haora Riverfront Development Project. The Chief Minister inaugurated the riverfront near Battala and described it as an important step towards improving Agartala’s urban landscape.
The programme also included the virtual inauguration of the newly developed Airport Road under the Agartala Smart City Mission. Saha also laid the foundation stone for a new marriage hall in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
Haora Riverfront Transforms Agartala
The Haora Riverfront project covers around 1,700 metres of riverbank. The stretch runs from Steel Bridge to Dashamighat in the heart of Agartala.
Authorities developed the project under the Agartala Smart City Mission. The project cost around Rs 96 crore, according to project details cited by local reports.
The new riverfront includes several public facilities. These include walking and cycling paths, viewing decks and an elevated walkway. Visitors can also use an open gym and yoga space.
The project also features a children’s playground, nature trail and food plaza. An art and craft village and bird aviary add further attractions.
Focus on River Protection
The project aims to improve the appearance of the riverfront and protect the Haora River. Saha said the river holds an important place in Agartala’s history and heritage.
Officials have included several measures to strengthen the riverbank. These include gabion walls, micro-piles, geotextiles and toe walls. Such measures aim to improve stability and reduce erosion along the river.
Saha also stressed the importance of maintaining the project after its inauguration. The project includes a five-year maintenance arrangement to support its long-term upkeep.
Airport Road Gets New Infrastructure
The Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated the newly developed Airport Road under the Agartala Smart City Mission.
The road forms part of the city’s wider urban infrastructure development. Better roads can improve connectivity between important parts of Agartala and support smoother movement for residents and visitors.
The government has continued to focus on modernising Agartala through Smart City projects and other urban development initiatives.
New Marriage Hall Planned for Residents
Saha also laid the foundation stone for a marriage hall in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
The facility aims to provide an affordable venue for economically weaker sections. The project forms part of the government’s wider effort to improve public facilities for residents.
The initiative adds another element to the city’s growing civic infrastructure.
Government Highlights Urban Development
During the programme, Saha said the state government continues to focus on improving public services and urban infrastructure.
He stressed the need for government departments and civic bodies to work together. He also called for timely and transparent implementation of development projects.
Earlier, Saha had said that Agartala needs modern infrastructure and stronger digital services. He also highlighted the role of the Agartala Municipal Corporation in improving civic facilities across the city.
Agartala’s Urban Development Continues
The latest projects add to Agartala’s ongoing infrastructure development. The city has seen several initiatives focused on roads, water bodies, public spaces and civic services.
The Haora Riverfront now provides residents with a new recreational space in the city centre. The Airport Road project adds to the city’s transport infrastructure, while the proposed marriage hall will expand public facilities.
With these projects, the Tripura government continues to focus on modernising Agartala while improving public spaces and basic civic amenities.
