In a bid to promote Tripura as a major national and international tourist destination, the state government has announced an investment of Rs. 1000 crore. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha revealed the comprehensive tourism promotion plan during his address at the 8th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi. The initiative aims to enhance the last mile connectivity, develop accommodation facilities, improve infrastructure in tourist destinations, and strengthen the skills of the workforce engaged in the tourism sector.

Under the tourism promotion plan, the Tripura government plans to focus on improving connectivity, making it easier for tourists to access various attractions in the state. The focus on medical tourism will not only attract tourists seeking wellness and rejuvenation but also contribute to the growth of the healthcare industry in the state.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s plans for industrial development. The state has identified over 2000 acres of land for industrial projects, public-private partnerships, special economic zones, and sector-specific initiatives in areas such as rubber, agar, bamboo, and food processing. The Asian Development Bank has agreed to extend a loan to upgrade 15 industrial estates, further boosting the industrial sector in Tripura.

In terms of financial investments, the state government has significantly increased its capital expenditure from Rs. 835 crore in 2020-21 to Rs. 2200 crore in the financial year 2022-23, representing an impressive growth rate of about 62 percent. The government has also identified and submitted eight projects worth Rs. 109.19 crore to the concerned ministry for promotion of industry and internal trade.
