Tripura has taken a major leap toward modern farming. On Thursday, Tripura CM launched a tech-driven farm mission that aims to increase agricultural productivity using AI and smart tools. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the program would empower farmers with real-time data and digital resources.
He emphasized that farmers must embrace innovation to compete in today’s evolving agriculture landscape. “Technology is the bridge to a better future for our farmers,” he said during the event in Agartala.

AI, Drones, and Data to Revolutionize Farming
Under this mission, the government will roll out AI-based soil testing, drone-enabled irrigation, and satellite crop monitoring. These technologies will help farmers make quick, informed decisions about irrigation, fertilizer use, and pest control.
Unlike traditional methods, these tools will provide accurate, timely data. As a result, farmers can reduce crop losses and optimize input costs. Experts also demonstrated mobile apps that offer weather forecasts and crop care suggestions.
Since Tripura CM launched the tech-driven farm mission, district officials have begun installing sensor-based systems in selected fields.
Mission to Reach One Lakh Farmers in First Phase
The mission’s first phase will support 1 lakh small and marginal farmers. These individuals will receive training, digital devices, and on-ground support through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).
Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the mission would initially cover 60 blocks across Tripura. “We are focused on practical results, not just digital slogans,” he added. Each district will form a dedicated task force to support implementation.
Furthermore, the program will promote organic farming and provide modern harvesting machines to boost efficiency.
Collaborations with Research Institutes and Startups
Tripura’s government has partnered with ICAR, IIT-Guwahati, and several agri-tech startups to design region-specific AI models. These institutions will help develop tools that suit Tripura’s soil, weather, and crop patterns.
Private firms will provide drones, mobile advisory platforms, and cloud-based data analytics. Officials also plan to launch a digital farm advisory dashboard where farmers can access live updates and expert guidance.
During the launch, CM Saha remarked, “By bringing together technology and tradition, we will transform agriculture in our state.”
Empowering Women and Youth in Agriculture
To promote inclusive development, the mission will involve women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and rural youth. Around 5,000 young people will become “Agri-Tech Fellows” to guide farmers in adopting new tools.
These fellows will assist with training, troubleshooting, and field operations. At the same time, SHGs will handle post-harvest processing, packaging, and marketing tasks. This will help create at least 2,000 new jobs in the agri-value chain.
Clearly, this program aims not only to increase crop yields but also to generate employment and empower local communities.
Early Warning Systems and Real-Time Crop Monitoring
The government has committed to building a robust early warning system under the mission. Remote sensing and AI will help predict floods, pest attacks, or drought conditions in advance.
Farmers will receive alerts via SMS or mobile apps in local languages. This early response will reduce crop damage and minimize financial losses.
Since Tripura CM launched the tech-driven farm mission, the agriculture department has already started testing these systems in high-risk zones.
Officials also plan to integrate all district-level farm data into a centralized dashboard for better coordination.
Funding, Timeline, and Policy Alignment
The mission has secured ₹200 crore in state funds and will also receive central government support under Digital India and the National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture.
It aligns with India’s broader AI strategy and complements the Union Government’s focus on precision agriculture. Authorities expect visible results—such as better yields and lower costs—within 18 months.
Dr. Saha mentioned that the government will periodically review the progress and fine-tune the implementation process.
